Real Stories, Real Change: Honoring Lived Experience on World Mental Health Day
By Dr. Sarita Saini Founder & Senior Relationship Counsellor, Positive World Therapy and Counselling
Real stories. Real change. Real healing.
Today, on World Mental Health Day, we embrace this year’s vital global theme: “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”
In my over 25 years of clinical practice at Positive World Therapy and Counselling, I have witnessed a fundamental truth: true healing does not happen in isolation, nor does it live purely in clinical theory. It is forged through practice, and it begins the moment we truly listen to those who have walked the path of mental health struggles.
The Reality Check
The statistics remain sobering. Globally, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives. Yet, stigma, shame, and silent endurance continue to block millions from seeking the support they deserve.
For too long, mental health struggles have been treated as secrets to be hidden. But lived experience is not a burden to carry in the dark—it is essential expertise. Systemic and personal change only happens when we honor these voices, breaking the silence and replacing judgment with deep empathy.
Living Proof: Signature Daily Rituals for Healing
Real recovery is built on small, consistent micro-actions. Over decades of clinical work, I have developed and utilized specific daily rituals with my clients. Their progress is living, breathing proof that the mind and nervous system can transform when given the right structure:
- The Daily Morning Grounding Ritual: An intentional start to anchor the nervous system before the rush of the day, helping shift the body out of chronic survival mode and into safety and presence.
- The Somatic Trauma Release Ritual: A guided physical and emotional practice designed to safely discharge stored tension, somatic stress, and heavy emotional weight from the body.
- The Positive Subconscious Reframing Ritual: A deliberate practice used to intercept negative cognitive loops, replacing harsh self-criticism with neural safety and self-compassion.
- The Night Closure Ritual: A gentle wind-down practice to process the day's emotional residue, ensuring the subconscious rests in security rather than late-night rumination.
Taking Action: For Yourself or a Dear One
Mental health is never a destination; it is a daily practice. Whether you are navigating your own inner work today or holding space for someone you love, remember that you do not have to carry it all alone.
- For Yourself: Choose to protect your peace today. Take five mindful minutes to breathe, pause, and ground yourself through a simple daily ritual.
- For a Dear One: Reach out to someone you love. Send a simple text: "Hey, just checking in. No pressure to reply, but I'm here if you want to talk."
Your story matters. Your voice matters. Let's continue to build a more compassionate, understanding world together—one conversation, and one lived experience at a time.
If you or someone you know is looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to talk, process, and heal, Positive World Therapy and Counselling is here for you. [Reach out to book a session with us today.
